Staying Limber & Agile With Green Tea

Want to stay limber and agile as you get older? Green tea may be the answer.

It looks like green tea can actually help us stay independent as we get older, and that's a good thing.

The goal as always is to age not only gracefully but with as much independence as possible. But as we age we also tend to lose flexibility and balance which can lead to more falls and fractures. So one key to staying independent into our twilight years is to stay as flexible as possible and that's where green tea comes into play.

A new Japanese study, just published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, followed almost 14 thousand people aged 65 or older. Researchers found that drinking green tea cut the chances of developing what's known as a functional disability nearly in half. The more people drank green tea the lower their risk of developing a disability that could impact their independence. Other studies have shown that green tea can reduce the risk of osteoporosis and even strokes and maybe even help someone maintain muscle strength as they get older.

Although researchers aren't sure why green tea has these benefits they do point out that it has more antioxidants than even black tea.
